Skinfood : yummy food for skin x ZALORA

Tinyceci is now in the land of kimchi with her mom typing this in the hostel. It feels really good to be back here! My second home~^^ The weather is my favorite type of chilly: 5-15 degrees Celsius but my skin isn't really agreeing with my elation since the dry weather takes some getting used to.

Anyway, so I started (restarted) using some skin packs and masks to restore moisture balance to my skin, which broke out the day we arrived. There are some secret tips Koreans use to do this at home using food ingredients, but thankfully for those of us who find it hard to keep track and store food for skin mask packs, there's SKINFOOD Singapore! Now available online~ ^^

I swear by using raw egg whites for break outs and in Korea(learned from my Korean beautician), it's really easy to store the excess raw egg whites in the fridge but in tropical countries like Singapore or Philippines, that's really tough without risking the whites getting contaminated or turning bad, so I'm really happy to see SKINFOOD came up with these products.

Also, the black sugar wash off mask is a great exfoliator! It's also much more cheaper compared to another brand F****.

Here're some masks for troubled skin (I'm really surprised the prices are so reasonable!)^^ :

Next up, I know pore brushes are really popular in Singapore now and SKINFOOD also has their own! I love how they have a string thingy at the end so it's easy to hang it up for drying.

Next up, I've been going crazy with lip tints whilst shopping here. There are just SO MANY lip tints to choose from! And they are so soooo good and pretty! Lipsticks are passé. Tints with a touch of gloss make such pretty gradient lips and they last all day...

With Christmas coming, SKINFOOD offers really good options for gifts under $10. Check this out! They are all so cute!!! Just buy one of each and mass presents for coworkers =done.

Christmas is coming ~!^^ HOHOHO better start planning for Christmas pressies now~

Early Shopping @ ZALORA for CNY Frocks

I know it's a little early to be talking about Lunar New Year when Christmas isn't even here yet but hey, it pays to start thinking and looking out for pretty stuff early for CNY because we sure don't want to bump into another wearing those last-minute-bought-and-randomly-put-together outfits during house visits for Ang Baos!

For my Korean/Japanese/Rest of the world friends and readers:

Ang Bao / Hong Bao (홍바오/ 빩간 봉투) = Red Packet literally (and it's a money envelope given to children/unmarried Singles by married elders. It's much similar to the greeting money you get in Korea when you do the bowing ceremony during Seollal & Chuseok) ^^

Andddd obviously, THE lucky color to wear is RED because it's the color that drove away the monster NIAN (which means year in Chinese) in the Chinese legend.

I remember growing up in years where red was associated with being garish, and too wayang, so although I liked red, I did not have a single piece of clothing in red, pink, orange, nor yellow.

Browsing through the ZALORA CNY Boutique, I must admit that I was a little disappointed to see that they recycled the same visuals as last year's, but hey, they're still pretty.

SHOP ZALORA CNY Boutique for some great deals!
As this is early CNY shopping, there're some perks, picked out a few great deals from Clothier which are extremely pocket friendly and also versatile in that they can be worn for other occasions like work or a formal dinner event. I love how Clothier blends a twist of modernity with the traditional Chinese "qipao" costume and makes it so wearable. ^^

Here's tinyceci's "must buy" pick! At 38$, this dress is a steal! And it's red~ A safe option for CNY and good luck.
Contrast collar and hem point feature
with an universally complimenting v-neck line,
this dress can take you through
all of CNY, wedding dinners, and work!
If budget isn't really your concern, may I suggest this gorgeous piece instead? The psychedelic colors immediately jumped out at me - I'm sure one will be the center of attraction wearing this to "bai nian", or even to wedding dinners. I would love to wear this for my own tea ceremony when I get married! ㅋㅋㅋ
Mandarin collar feature with traditional fit
cheongsam in vivid floral prints.
Ideal for the classy woman,

Back to wearable pieces, this one is for denim lovers (with lace)! A touch of casual-ness and femininity with the strictly formal qipao. The A-line cutting ensures that even those with fuller bottoms will fit nicely into this dress without feeling like a dumpling. ㅎㅎ

The sweetest and figure friendly qipao ever!
Now you don't have to worry about being
overdressed in a cheongsam
nor bursting at the seams after eating anymore^^

Last but not least, if a dress isn't really your cup of tea, or if you're more of a mix-and-match lady, why not go for this simple and understated cheongsam-inspired top which is SUPER work friendly? No crazy prints, just a tinge of floral on simple white base.
With a hint of green floral fabric detail,
this cheongsam top has a comfortable
boat neck cutting and allowance at the waistline.
Great for an understated CNY look.

That's all folks! Hope you avoid last minute CNY shopping this 2015! ^^ㅋㅋㅋ 세옷들이 미리미리 준비 하세요~

Mango Summer Sale is Online!

In Korea, there're 3-4 major sale events in a whole year. Every Summer, just like SG's Great Singapore Sale (GSS), kimchiland has the Seoul Summer Sale (서울 여름 세일)! ^^

Year after year, my then kimchi based Kiwi-Arabian BFF Alwin and I would rush down to our mother base, Myeong Dong to check the sales at the "usual suspects", Mango 망고, Zara 자라, F21 and H&M. Obviously, the local Korean homegrown brands also have great discounts and all. However, for the latter, unless it's designer, I usually just stick to sussing the same designs I see on the streets online and purchase them on GMarket. The cutting usually runs small (way smaller than the images) and that works for my petite size. ^^

But every single time, I noticed that the prices in Mango is wayyyyyyyy steep in the stores without sale ㅠㅠ, even though there's so many cute stuffs I want to get, and by the time Sale time arrives, my sizes are all gone.  And I hate rubbing shoulders with other ladies in a packed store with never ending queues ㅠ________ㅠ

The same situation is exacerbated in local SG, especially during GSS, simply because:
1. we only have Summer/Monsoon so every one rushes to get the nicer S/S style clothes
2. SG is overcrowded

That's all about to change since, now we can all shop the MANGO sale online on ZALORA! It seems that cool brands are becoming available online one by one on ZALORA SG!  YAY~ㅅ.ㅅ
The MANGO Sale is now on ZALORA! 70% off WOO HOO 오 예~
The MANGO Sale is really awesome! Lots of cute stuff to get under 30$~ ^.^

Looking to get these comfy airy summer dresses:

Did you notice how tinyceci's choices tend to be within the neutrals colors? Koreans, unlike their quirky neighbors, the Japanese, tend to be more "uniformed" (?) in their dressing and unless a certain bright color is IN season, people usually stick to the "safer colors" to "not stand out" (we call that "눈에 띄어" in Korean which is somewhat like an eyesore). So yeah. If there's an IN item, and you don't have that, you're out of the trend, which is bad too.

A quick tip to dressing like a Korean:

- Stick to the neutrals with interesting textures or fabrics.
- Layer on different textures of the same color
- Accessorize!
- Matching shoes (THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! My kimchi friends always gripe about how SGreans/SEAsians/Mainland Chinese in general tend to destroy the whole look of a gorgeous dress by wearing mismatched shoes/sandals)

Anyways. Back to checking out the MANGO sale.

Really love these too! But it's a little pricey~~ ㅜㅜ
Apart from dresses, there're tons of tops and bottoms to pick from as well. But tinyceci really is a dress-holic. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ so pardon the lack of other stuff.

I love the texture and detail on this wallet! Feminine, understatedly chic, and playful at the same time.
Who says only pink = girly?

오마이갓! There's the bag version as well! *^-^*

OMG actually found the fabulous dress on model in the Mango ad banner! Anddddd it's on SALE!!! 대박

Anddddd~ Last but not least, the shoe that goes with everything! Every lady needs to have a pair of the classic black peep toe heels for summer~~ I remember having a similar pair which I bought from a sale in a fancy shoe shop in Myeong Dong and it took me through the whole of my Summer internship in Shinhan Bank 신한은행 (Their SG office is also in a nice fancy building located near Hong Lim Park!) for 2 months.

There's this thingy in Korea that women wear open toes and paint their nails with fancy colors in Summer (which reminds me, please ALWAYS paint your nails before wearing anything that shows your toes! Naked toes with slippers, peep toes is a big NO-NO. My favorite color to wear is Fuchsia Pink for summer. ^-~), because it looks too "humid" and "hot" if you wear covered shoes during Summer. Similarly, if you wear these in Winter, the kimchi folks are going to think your feet is cold and that you're a little bonkers. ㅋㅋㅋ

Shop till you drop! ^.^ 빠2~ ㅋ

Valentine’s Day in Korea and Japan

Did you know that in Korea and Japan, Valentine’s Day is a time where the GUYS take a backseat and the LADIES take the initiative to “confess” their love to the guys by offering them “honmei” chocolate?

That sure sounds strange right? My friends from western countries were flabbergasted when they heard about this somewhat strange tradition in East Asia. I too, shared their surprise at first but gradually got used to such sights in my school. LOL.

Not to worry ladies, the guys are supposed to actually return the favor THREE TIMES a month later on 화이트데이 (White Day), or at least give candy to the girl they like. ^^ So, yeah. It’s a pretty good system of acceptance and rejection in my opinion. And who doesn't like more candy/chocolates? ^_^ Godiva and Royce chocolates을 주시면 정말 감사하겠습니다~ ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

By the way, the rejected have to eat 자짱면 (Jajjangmyeon) on BLACK DAY (that's a month after White Day, 14th April. Kinda morbid and sad in a way.  ㅠㅠ

Back to Valentine’s Day, in Korea, girls reaaaally take a conscious effort to look pretty 247, like all the time literally. You can get away wearing all kinds of pretty frocks with elaborate accessories and complete makeup without anyone raising an eyebrow. And they do go the extra mile to look extra pretty on special occasions like Christmas and V-day, the 2 critical time periods where new couples are formed.

6 years ago, I recall college friends shyly coming up to me and asking, “Excuse me, but why do you always dress so nice for class?” In Korea, looking good is a social etiquette. I really do think this should be the case everywhere else! Why dress in scrubs when you can be decked out in beautiful clothes which makes you feel better about yourself? ^^

Incidentally, while I was browsing online for clothes to wear on V-day, I saw some nice stuffs on Zalora!~ ^^

I really love shopping at ZALORA!

For those of you who are running out of ideas (and time/money) for that special gift to the Significant Other, maybe you could check this out! Spotted lotsa nice stuff under $50! ^^

Here's the link for the ZALORA V-day lookbook page!

They do have some lovely items for ladies and gents which are really inexpensive but look classy! ^^ Let's be pretty for V-day okays?~ ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 여러분~~ 이쁘게 다녀야해요~ ㅋㅋㅋ
